IBLUES rated the P2055DN as 5/5 and says - Great System - Some of the reviews were unfair to this printer. I bought it a few days ago. It works as intended. It's a good printer for the price, specially considering that even in quiet mode, is not so slow. The double-sided was the reason I purchased this printer (and the network connection.)
Those people talking about the old HP printers are just whi....
Yes, the quality is different... but still is a good printer. I have an OKI c3400 that it's bigger and it looks more robust, but it has been more problematic.
GREAT PRINTER!!!!
Saumendra Sarkar rated the P2055DN as 5/5 and says - A pretty good fast duplex-capable Printer - Quite good, fast, both-side printing. Have had this for 2 mo, so far very satisfied. Just using via USB, cannot comment on the network capability. Very Good paper handling.
Robert Fusfeld rated the P2055DN as 5/5 and says - Very nice printer - Ideal for SOHO - Pros
outstanding text print quality
great duplexing
prints on business card stock
quiet mode helps on noise
optional straight paper path
very easy setup
regular and "huge" replacement toner options
Cons
quiet mode isn't so quiet
windows drivers have obnoxious autoupdate feature
no printed manual
comes with starter toner cartridge
This is a very good printer. I have owned it for almost a month. I bought it for the two sided printing which works flawlessly. Text printing quality is absolutely outstanding, especially if you set it to the highest quality 1200 resolution (called prores). I have done some limited graph and image printing. No complaints there but I focus on text quality.
Paper tray use and adjustment is very easy and toner replacement also simple. I haven't done envelopes as I use a label printer so no idea how well envelopes work. Network installation in a home office was simple and straightforward. I us os X and the driver has a nice booklet printing feature that I find very useful. The printer does business cards on card stock which I have found problematic on other lasers. It also has the option of a straight paper path which is highly useful for some kinds of jobs. It can be set to a quiet mode that slows things down to about half speed, but even that speed is fine for most jobs and can be easily reset for the few big ones I do. One negative is that even in quiet mode it is a little loud, not overwhelming, but that is the only (very slight negative). Another downside is on the windows side (which I run from a virtual machine now and then). The windows drivers have an intrusive autoupdate feature that I have not figured how to disable. Also, it comes with a starter toner cartridge (maybe 1600 pages) which means having to add the cost of a full cartridge pretty soon. The positive here is that there are two replacement toners, a 2500 pager and a huge 6300 pager. Too bad Amazon doesn't sell these directly so I can't use Amazon prime. My final complaint is the lack of a printed manual - you have to rely on the .pdf on the install disk. Unfortunately, this seems standard for all manufacturers. By the way downloading and installing the latest drivers for os X was a piece of cake.
I have been very critical of some other HP products in the past, but this one is a winner.
MJ rated the P2055DN as 5/5 and says - Works great connected to an Airport Express and a Mac running OS X Leopard (10.5.6) - Got this printer to replace my year-and-a-half-old, out-of-warranty HP LaserJet P2015d (which, like many, many printers of that model, developed a fatal formatter board problem). The P2055dn, like the P2015d, works great with my Macs and printing wirelessly while connected to an Airport Express, and directly via USB.
Because my P2015d died prematurely, and because the problem with that model was widespread and widely documented, I purchased a 3-year extended service plan from HP (hpshopping.com, HP product #UK929A) for around 60 USD, which essentially extends the warranty two years beyond the included one-year warranty. I'd recommend anyone buying a P-series LaserJet get an extended service plan: these printers work great, but are built somewhat cheaply, using lower-quality materials than HP's top-of-the line, business-oriented laser printers costing 1000 USD and up.
It's a shame to reward HP for their poor craftsmanship by buying another one from them, but for the year and a half the P2015d worked, it worked flawlessly. For my needs, this printer in combination with the extended service plan is the right balance of cost, performance, and longevity.
Reese P. Griffith rated the P2055DN as 5/5 and says - Great printer - This replaced my old Laser jet5 (15 years old). Since that old HP printer lasted so long I wanted another.. This was easy to set up. Prints fast and is perfect for our dental office.
Golog rated the P2055DN as 5/5 and says - Great printer when the default settings are changed - When I switched to a new computer running Vista x64, I was forced to replace my HP Laserjet 5P because HP have failed to provide a driver that works competently with the 64-bit operating system. This is great for HP officer and director bonuses, but bad for consumers and the environment, as countless old printers in good working condition have to be scrapped.
I chose the P2055dn because of auto-duplexing and the standard 128MB of RAM. I was initially disappointed by the poor print quality and noise of the printer with the factory default settings. After digging into the clunky, digital-only manual, I changed the print resolution from the default FastRes to ProRes for each category of document (done on-screen), and I changed to Quiet Mode (done on the printer). After these changes, the printer runs slower, but the print quality is excellent and the noise level is similar to that of the 5P.
To change to ProRes, go to Edit > Print > Properties and set the Print Quality to ProRes for each type of paper. To set the Quiet Mode, press the down arrow on the printer several times until you reach System Setup. Push the OK button, then toggle down to Quiet Mode with the down arrow. Press OK twice, then press the carriage return key to go back to Ready.
Setup in Vista x64 is simple and straightforward from the autorun DVD. There is no need to refer to the manual to get the printer to work.
The best price I could find in mid-January 2009 was from [...]. They shipped the printer from Tennessee to the northeast, and it arrived in 3 days by standard free shipping.
MGL9 rated the P2055DN as 5/5 and says - MGL9 - This is the first laser printer that I have owned, I I must say I have no regrets with my decision. What I wanted was a laser jet that was compact, had a duplexing feature, and was fast. It delivers on all counts.
Construction is solid, infact for similar products in the same price range it has no equal. Set up was straight forward. Our computers have both Windows Vista (64 bit), and Windows XP SP1 (32 bit), and integration was seamless.
We have an array of software packages from MS Office 2007 to CADD based applications and there were no driver issues. A few online updates were required, but that is not unusual.
Would highly recommend this product if you are in the market for a fast, quiet, and quality laserjet that can serve as both a personnal or network workhorse.

Coleman M. Greenberg rated the P2055DN as 4/5 and says - Good workhorse printer for small office - This printer is quick and quiet enough. The toner is pretty expensive, however, at only 2500 copies per.
N. Abeyta rated the P2055DN as 4/5 and says - No USB cable - Buy your own. - Be VERY VERY carefull with this HP P2055DN. The plastic housing is SO THIN it will probably break at the slightest bump. - Just tap anywhere on it and you'll know what I mean. When it starts up its LOUD for just a moment or two, then again when printing. No problem upgrading the firmware according to the HP website. Just follow the directions. - OH! in case you're wondering why HP does not include a USB cable as a measure of good customer service satisfaction. Well in the world of manufacturing, everything is timed, to the second, and time is MONEY to a factory. If a USB cable were to be included, then the factory would need additional TIME and MONEY for inventory and PEOPLE. That would make them less competetive with all of the other brands. - At least that's the way it was explained to me. Otherwise I expect this HP P2055DN to work as well or better than the HP 1320 at the office.
Amazonian rated the P2055DN as 4/5 and says - Excellent workgroup printer but HP dropped the ball..... - Here is how I break down my 4/5 stars:
Speed: 5/5 - This thing is FAST! Even on 2 sided printing it blazes.
Print quality: 5/5 - Nothing outstanding really. Pretty much what I expected from a laser printer. Nice crisp text but raster images are fuzzy.
Construction: 4/5 - The thickness of the plastic housing is pretty thin and flimsy. The front door that you use to feed stock to looks like it can easily be broken if you are too rough with it. This is not as solid as HP's older laserjets. We have a few of those and work and those things are built like tanks.
Interface: 4/5 - The buttons on this thing are pretty solid. Not like some of the other printers that I looked at. Some of the other ones looked like the buttons would fall off or break if you were too rough with the. The LED display could use a back light though. It is hard to see what is displayed if the light in the room is too low.
Networking: 5/5 - I was able to get all 6 computers in my house connected to the printer and printing successfully. I did however have to flash the firmware to be able to view the printers web server from my browser.
Support: 1/5 - This is where HP dropped the ball. There is no printed manual included. Just the CD-ROM with the manual on it. I guess HP's logic is that you will print out the manual with your new printer, thus requiring you to go out and buy an new toner cartridge since the one that comes with the printer is only a starter cartridge....shame on you HP! If I spend $400 on a printer it better have a manual with it.

J. Merritt rated the P2055DN as 3/5 and says - Just ok - I replaced an almost new hp laserjet 2015d with this one because the 2015d stopped working due to a defective formatter after two months. This printer, the 2055dn, is very noisy. It has a quiet mode, but then it prints much more slowly (as they tell you in the manual.)
Also, the plastic is flimsy all around. HP just isn't making printers of the quality they used to, it's very disappointing. HP's support and basic warranty also leaves a lot to be desired.
I like the 2015 model much better and will probably switch back to it once I get it back from the service people with a new formatter.

Christine Thompson rated the P2055DN as 2/5 and says - Not Up to HP's Historical Quality Standards - My previous LaserJet (2300dn) worked like a champ for 10 years and then just ran out of steam. I've had the P2055dn model for a couple of weeks, and am quite disappointed. It fails consistently to print embedded graphics within Word documents (.docx) files using Windows Vista (with either the PCL6 or Postscript drivers - same issue). (Those docs will print OK from a Mac.) Sometimes it times out and won't print a single web page from a Mac OS X running Leopard. In general results are better from a Mac than from a PC, as long as you don't experience the time-out problems.
Windows 7 drivers aren't yet available, and won't be until late October. If you've got Windows 7RC you'll find that the driver installation may fail to work, and if it does work, the driver installed doesn't quite match the printer's capabilities. You'll only get 600dpi low-quality printing.
I use this printer over a fast Ethernet network, and have not tried its USB capabilities (and am not likely to do so). The print quality is OK but not great. The Quiet Mode (suggested by some of the other reviewers) is OK.
Net net: HP's quality is definitely on the decline.
Farbod Shafiei rated the P2055DN as 2/5 and says - No CD-ROM Manual in the box - -I have purchased this product from Amazon.com, LLC. There was no "CD-ROM manual" in the box and when I called the Amazon.com , they told me I can take %10 discount over the purchase as it does not have the manual! or return it back!!!!!
-The HP costumer service was also hopeless on the phone to help me change the IP address of the printer!
-The printer by itself is working fine.
W. A. Cates rated the P2055DN as 2/5 and says - For everyday - great! Professional - take a second look! - Had to replace this machine twice because I couldn't believe the bad quality I was getting from HP. I've never had a machine from HP that I've been disappointed with until now. I ran a test - printed a large black box on plain paper and card stock on an old Laserjet 4L and and this "NEW" d2155dn. Hands down the 4L was far more darker and clean. The toner didn't even fuse!! on the card stock with the 2055. Yes, I did make sure my settings were correct for paper type. We found this out trying to print award certificates on card stock. The lettering looked like it had flaked off. The black box on plain paper wasn't bad but it was still no were near the quality of the older machine. Text on plain paper was great and if you do not print much graphics this is a good machine as it is well priced and rather fast.

M. Rotondaro rated the P2055DN as 1/5 and says - Good for linux bad for Windows... - This looked like it would be a great printer and there is no reason it shouldn't be except HP hasn't written working drivers. The printer and all of its functionality work great in Linux but it consistently fails in with Windows XP. When I try to print complicated documents in windows I consistently get the following error
PCL XL error
Subsystem: KERNEL
Error: IllegalAttributeDataType
Operator: Text
Position: 7432
To print documents, I have to print the document to a PDF then use linux to actually send the document to the printer. This is really bad...
If you have a linux system then this will work for you but if you have a windows system then I would pass on this printer...
Note: I have the current firmware installed and I have tried every driver on the HP page for this printer... No luck.
Matthew Elyash rated the P2055DN as 1/5 and says - Died early, NO SUPPORT - While I have seen several of these in the office continue to work, the unit we had failed after less than 1000 pages! It was very lightly used, and the mechanisim works, but both the network and usb interfaces would just drop offline, and not be viewable. Started with it on network and after that failed IT put it on a local computer thru usb and after a couple weeks THAT failed too.
This is not the end of the world, but it failed less than a month out of warranty. HP did absolutely nothing for us. We spent close to A million dollars with that company under contract over the last few years, and they can't even replace a clearly defective printer?
Too bad, even though they were pricy, the one thing HP had going for them was their support, and now even that seems to have disappeared. It will take alot to get me to buy another one after this Horible Experience.
